The Goal

The Process

To the right is an example of key insights gained during customer interviews combined into common themes. From these themes, I formed the user requirements for the basis of the app which lead to working with UX to form an information architecture and then finally a wireframe prototype.

Once the wireframe prototype was complete, I conducted user validation with a similar subset of people that were a part of the customer discovery phase. During these conversations, the interviewee would be given a clickable prototype and through a series of questions they would test the usability and intuitive nature of the app. Based on this feedback the final workflows and designs were modified.

The Solution

An app built for athletes by athletes.

Professional athletes need ease of use, engagement and instant feedback to buy into extra work especially during remote training. This app applies themes such as dark mode and a modern mobile design system. It introduces new features such as a one click direct to cloud upload of a raw file.

Catapult Athlete aims to bring the power of data collection into the athlete’s hand while using the same hardware they would at their team facilities. The first primary use cases are within MiLB/MLB off season and referee organizations such as PGMOL within the Premier League. Remote training introduces gaps in longitudinal reporting when Sports Scientists have no visibility into the athletes actual training data. Catapult Athlete bridges that gap.

Catapult’s previous solution was geared for team staff and not the athlete themselves. With that in mind, we took this process from ground zero to create something for the athlete by other athletes. To do so, numerous customer interviews took place with both Sports Scientist as well as athletes from relevant baseball and referee organizations. The goal was to gather as much feedback as possible and then synthesize it into top features.
